Liver and biliary tract

In tumors of Liver image-guided procedures may complement surgery or drug treatment. Which therapy is useful depends, among other things, on the type, size and location of the changes as well as the liver function.

Transjugular liver biopsy

If appropriately indicated, a tissue sample may be collected via a liver vein. This access is particularly suitable if a percutaneous Biopsy is unfavorable. A pressure measurement in the hepatic vein system can be supplemented depending on the question. The access and its risks are discussed individually.

Targeted treatment of tumors

During ablation, a probe is passed through the skin to the tumor. Heat or cold can destroy the target tissue. The Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) combines a local drug administration with a vascular closure. In SIRT, radioactive microparticles are introduced via the liver artery.

Diagnostic imaging and Biliary tract

Image-guided tissue samples can help clarify a finding. If bile runoff is disturbed, Drainage procedures or stents are considered, depending on the cause.

Decisions taken jointly

The selection is made in cooperation with the participating disciplines, in the case of tumor diseases usually in Multidisciplinary tumour board. Bleeding, infections and damage to neighboring structures are among the possible risks.
